As the colours of the wind turn from earth tones,
I think of us and all the time we’ve wasted.
I could’ve known you better. I don’t know why
we only started talking at the almost goodbye.
You showed me the flame of summer turning to fall
just when I thought I had seen it all.
Yet we were only ever acquaintances.
I was stopped by circumstance.
Winter was cold, in more ways than one;
that was when I found it’s my heart you’d won.
Somewhere among those times we’d spent laughing,
I started to feel a sense of belonging.
Too soon, I felt the days get warmer.
I realized then our days were numbered.
As we sat on a bench killing time,
I wished, I wished that you were mine.
Spring was coming round the bend;
somehow we’re becoming friends.
You took a trip across the sea,
You said: “Next time, you should come with me.”
Summer is here again, a year has gone.
It’s almost time for us to go home.
‘Goodbye’ tastes bitter and my heart’s in pain,
I will never see you again.
